As unfortunate as getting lost in the woods is, you really can’t do anything about it, so you decide to have a look around to see if there is anything resembling a path. Somewhere in the distance, you can hear the gurgling of a small waterfall, so you head in that direction.

After a bit of exploration, you come upon the place where the sound is originating. It is a small waterfall being fed by a small stream. You look into the water, and are horrified to see a three foot tall squirrel taking a bath beneath the falls.

“Hello there mister squirrel,” you say.

“Hi,” says the squirrel, obviously more interested in bathing than having a conversation.

“You sure are big mister squirrel,” you say. “How’d you get to be that way?”

“This is how they made me,” says the squirrel.

“This is how who made you?” you ask.

“Them...” says the squirrel.

“Who is them?” you ask.

“You know,” says the squirrel. “THEM...”

“Oh, I see,” you say, even though you don’t see. You have a feeling that mister squirrel is trying to hide something from you, but decide it’s really of no concern. What you are concerned about is finding a path to lead you in more predictable directions.

“Mister squirrel,” you say. “Are there any paths around here that I can follow?”

“There’s one over there,” says mister squirrel.

“Where?” you ask.

“THERE...” says mister squirrel, obviously becoming a bit annoyed. You look in the direction that the squirrel is indicating, but can make out no path. You stare a little harder. As you’re staring, a path appears to open up out of the thick vegetation of the wood. You head in that direction.

The path seems to slowly ascend an incline before levelling out at the top of a sort of hill. From there, the path is straight forward for as long as you can see. You begin travelling down this path. In the distance, you can start to make out an incredibly steep incline. You follow the path until it leads you to the base of this incline.

At the base of the incline there is a staircase made out of large wooden blocks. The stairs look stable enough to you, so you begin to climb.

F4 - Climb The Stairs

E16: You’re competely lost, but at the same time, you’re absolutely positive that you can somehow make it back to where you were. You begin to retrace your footsteps as far back as you can remember.

You think you recognize the tree up ahead and walk in that direction, but before you can make it, the ground gives way beneath you. Before you can gain your balance, you fall down fifteen feet into a very deep pit.

Now you are at a complete impasse. There is absolutely no way for you to get out of this pit on your own. You decide to wait until someone comes to rescue you. You wait for about half an hour before you hear voices in the distance.

“Roy, I think we’ve done got ourselves caught something,” one voice says in a hick accent.

“Nar Ralph. You just be dreaming again,” says the other voice.

“Yessum Mister,” says Ralph. “I see something done got caught in that pit we dug for Sasquatch.”

“You thinkum we rilly caught it?” says Roy.

“Let’s have a look,” says Ralph.

You look up, and two faces appear at the top of the pit. It’s two men. Both are wearing matching red flannel hats, and green flannel shirts. One has a hatchet in his hand. The other has an antique riffle that doesn’t look like it even works.

“Ahoy there,” says Ralph. “You’re no Sasquatch. Why’d you fall in our pit?”

“I didn’t do so intensionally,” you say.

“You must be a wantin out,” says Roy.

“I’d be much obliged,” you say. Roy grabs a length of robe from his backpack, and throws one end down to you. Both Roy and Ralph grab the other end and hoist you out of the pit. “Thank you,” you say.

“Darn diggity,” says Roy. “We’ll have to reset our trap again. The life of a mountain man sure is hard!”

“Have you caught anything else in this pit?” you ask.

“We caught a three foot tall squirrel a few days ago, but he got away,” says Ralph.

“I see,” you say. “Say, would you guys happen to know the way back to the meadow?”

“We sure do,” says Roy. “Just follow that path there for a bit.” Roy points to a path that you had previously failed to notice. You head in that direction.

After following the path for a long while, you never reach the meadow. It suddenly occurs to you that you took the path in the wrong direction. You decide that you’re far enough out now that you’ll just follow the path to where it leads.

The path winds around for a while, then becomes straight. Then it winds around a little more until you come to the side of a very steep hill. There is a wooden staircase leading to the top of the hill. You reach the stairs and begin your ascent.
