You decide that perhaps the badger wouldn’t mind, so you reach forward and slowly open the box. Something like a layer of fog escapes the box as you slowly turn the lid on its hinges. The lighting isn’t great from within the log, so you have to stare very intently to see what’s inside.
As your eyes acclimate to the light, you notice something like sparkling light coming from within the box. The box appears to be completely filled with stardust. You grab a pinch of it, and it is warm to the touch.
Your mind begins to wander over all the fairy tales from your childhood. You vaguely remember that stardust has several very interesting uses, but it’s been so long that it’s hard to remember clearly.
Then in a moment of inspiration, you remember that a pinch of stardust is all it takes to be able to fly. You get very excited and are about to swallow a pinch of stardust when your conscience comes a knocking.
“If you take that stardust,” says your conscience, “Then you’re stealing from mister badger. Don’t you think it would be wise to ask permission first?”
You consider your options for a moment, but eventually are indecisive.
What do you do?
