“Ha, what do you know. It killed Charles last thursday.” the leaf man exclaims.
“Who was Charles?” you ask.
“Charles was the greatest vine swinger in the whole jungle. He could leap a hundred feet in mere moments!”
“What was Charles curious about?” you ask.
“One day while swinging through the forest,” the leaf man begins. “Charles came upon a hidden treasure. The treasure was of incredible value, so he dug a hole and hid it. He came back later to claim his prize, but it was all gone, and thus Charles became curious and wondered where the treasure had gone. He set off to find it and then......”
“Then what?!” you ask, starting to get excited.
“Then he died.” the leaf man says solemnly.
“I see,” you say. “Leaf man? Where exactly is it that we are?”
“My child,” the leaf man says slowly. “You are in the middle of the wood.”
“I can see that we’re in the woods,” you say. “But what is this place? What is it called?”
“Tisk, tisk,” the leaf man responds. “You mortals understand nothing. Get away from me you filthy creature.”
You don’t want to upset the leaf man any further, so you decide to leave. You can hear a stream running somewhere off to the left, so you go in that direction. The stream leads straight into the wood. You decide to follow it for a while.
The trees become larger and larger the deeper you get into the wood. You follow the stream a while longer until it takes you to a forgotten path. There is all sorts of overgrowth, but neverless a path can clearly be made out. You begin to follow this path.
This path winds slowly up the side of the hill.
As you are climbing this hill, just over the horizon of what you can see, you see smoke trails. You climb a little further, and the top of a chiminey comes into view. As you reach the top of the hill, the whole house comes into view.
This house looks cheery and inviting. You decide to walk right in.
